San Diego kicked off construction on Beyer Park in San Ysidro.
The project addressed a long-standing demand for more park space in a community where residents have historically had fewer recreation acres than many other parts of the city.
Beginning work was an important equity milestone, but completion, maintenance and safe access would determine whether the investment delivered lasting neighborhood value.
