San Diego adopted a Coastal Resilience Master Plan focused on beaches, shoreline infrastructure and public access.
The plan evaluated nature-based and engineered responses to erosion and sea-level rise. Coastal adaptation requires decisions about what to protect, where to create room for change and how to avoid shifting damage downshore.
Adoption provided a citywide framework, but individual projects would still need design, environmental review and funding. The coast would measure implementation against hazards that continue to advance.
