San Diego expanded wildlife conservation at Mission Trails Regional Park through a new land acquisition.
Adding undeveloped property can connect habitat, protect views and prevent fragmentation near one of the city's largest open-space systems. Acquisition also brings responsibility for monitoring, fire management and invasive species.
The purchase was a permanent land-use decision. Its ecological benefit would grow if the parcel remained connected to surrounding habitat and received consistent stewardship.
