MTS will add trolley trips around the two National League Division Series games scheduled at Petco Park on Tuesday and Wednesday. The UC San Diego Blue, Orange and Green lines will each reach the downtown ballpark area every 15 minutes or better before and after the Padres host the Milwaukee Brewers in Games 3 and 4.
Game 3 begins Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Green Line trains will serve every station at least every 15 minutes, with additional trips running between Stadium Station and Gaslamp Quarter beginning at 5 p.m. Blue and Orange line trains will operate at the same minimum frequency across their full routes. That schedule turns the extra capacity on before the heaviest arrival window instead of waiting for the final hour before first pitch.
The outbound plan divides the crowd among three corridors. Blue Line trains will leave 12th & Imperial Transit Center every 15 minutes toward both San Ysidro and UTC. Green Line trains will depart 12th & Imperial and Gaslamp Quarter at 15-minute intervals, with extra trips continuing as needed while crowds clear. Orange Line departures from 12th & Imperial will keep the same interval until the crowd diminishes or 10:56 p.m., whichever comes first.
First-pitch time for Wednesday's Game 4 had not been announced when MTS released the service plan Monday. The agency said it would provide comparable pregame and postgame service, then move the added trips to fit the eventual game time. That distinction matters for riders planning workday connections: the commitment is to extra capacity, while the precise clock remains dependent on Major League Baseball's schedule.
Nine park-and-ride locations offer a combined inventory spread across the system. Old Town has more than 400 spaces, plus more than 300 at the Caltrans District 11 overflow lot across Taylor Street. El Cajon adds more than 400. H Street has 295, Tecolote 279, Amaya Drive 230, Balboa Avenue 227, Grossmont 220 and Morena/Linda Vista 200. Availability is not guaranteed, but the distribution gives drivers alternatives to downtown garages.
A one-way adult trolley fare is $3 and remains valid for two hours. Riders can tap a contactless bank card, phone or watch on a platform validator, or use the PRONTO app. MTS recommends loading at least $6 for a round trip. Each passenger needs a separate payment method or account, so one card cannot be tapped repeatedly to cover a group.
The operation is larger than a single special train. MTS runs four trolley lines and 93 bus routes, carrying more than 250,000 passenger trips on a typical weekday. It reported more than 81 million riders in fiscal 2026. A sold-out playoff game adds a concentrated surge to that base system at the same time regular commuters are moving through downtown.
For fans, the practical choice is between a downtown parking search and a transfer of that search to a station lot. The added schedule improves frequency on the rail side but does not reserve a space, a seat or a particular departure. Riders using the lots still need time to park, validate a fare and reach Petco Park before the gates and platforms become busiest.
