San Diego secured nearly $12 million for a green-infrastructure project in Oak Park.
Green infrastructure can capture and filter runoff through planted areas, permeable surfaces and other features that work with natural processes. Well-designed projects can also add shade and improve the pedestrian environment.
The award created a strong funding base for the neighborhood investment. Final design, construction and long-term landscape care would determine how fully the project delivered both drainage and community benefits.
