Point Loma ended its home tournament without giving Colorado Christian a set or much room to build one. The 11th-ranked Sea Lions swept Saturday's finale 25-16, 25-16 and 25-17, completing a 3-0 run through the San Diego Invite.
The match totals spread the advantage across every phase. PLNU had 43 kills to Colorado Christian's 24, 11 aces to five, eight blocks to five, 42 assists to 23 and 61 digs to 33. Those differences produced a 62-34 edge in total points. The Sea Lions did not rely on one narrow matchup; they produced more first contacts, more finished swings and more resistance at the net.
Hailey Clark led all players with 11 kills. Her finish capped a 6-0 first-set run that moved Point Loma ahead 12-6, and Kaitlyn Cabral ended the frame after the Sea Lions scored its final four points. The nine-point margin set a level PLNU matched in the second.
Colorado Christian found its best position early in the third, moving ahead 13-10. Point Loma answered rather than allowing the deficit to grow. A six-point stretch carried the Sea Lions into the closing phase, where Jolyna Salas served three consecutive aces to make it 23-16. Kyra Miles and Sophia Baugh combined on the final block.
Miles finished with nine kills and five blocks, the second straight match in which she reached that block total. Cabral added eight kills and 14 digs. Baugh directed the offense with 33 assists, while Kira Federico led the floor defense with 16 digs. The production was distributed enough that Colorado Christian could not solve the match by slowing Clark alone.
The third-set recovery was the most useful test inside an otherwise controlled result. PLNU had already won two frames by nine, yet the tournament's final set required a response from three points down. The Sea Lions reversed it through serving and net play, then closed without allowing Colorado Christian to reach 18. Point Loma controlled the score before it had to chase one.
Point Loma improved to 4-2 overall. The tournament began with a sweep of DBU and continued with a four-set win over Winona State before Saturday's clean finish. Across the final two matches, the Sea Lions won six of seven sets, a compact home run that repaired the losing record they carried into the event.
A 3-0 tournament does not erase the difference between nonconference preparation and league play. It does establish the form PLNU takes into its next phase: multiple attackers scoring, a setter distributing 42 of the team's 43 kills and a defense producing nearly twice as many digs as Saturday's opponent.
The Sea Lions open PacWest play Tuesday at Biola at 6 p.m. The turnaround is short, and the venue changes, but Saturday reduced the immediate uncertainty. Point Loma handled two comfortable sets, answered the one deficit that threatened to change the pattern and closed its own event with three aces in a row before a shared block. That is a complete final sequence to carry onto the road.
