San Diego State finished three sets with only seven attack errors Saturday, and Gonzaga could not find a comparable answer. The Aztecs won 25-12, 25-19, 25-18 for their fifth consecutive victory, their third straight sweep and their seventh sweep of the season.

SDSU hit .389, its second-best rate of the year, with 44 kills on 95 swings. Gonzaga finished at .061 after 30 kills and 24 errors in 99 attempts, the lowest percentage by an Aztec opponent this season. The difference was not a single dominant hitter. SDSU received 11 kills apiece from Jasmine Schouten and Taylor Austin, seven from Kat Brown and six each from Layla Schabort and Grace Bentley.

Schouten was the cleanest finisher. She hit .588 with one error in 17 attacks and added five block assists. Schabort hit .500 without an error in 12 swings. Their efficiency kept setter Avery Mairs from having to force one matchup after Gonzaga shifted its block.

Mairs distributed 35 assists and matched a career high with four block assists. She also made seven digs and scored three kills. Libero Ava Stewart led the back row with 14 digs. At the net, SDSU finished with an 8-4 blocking advantage, enough to reinforce the attack-error gap without depending on blocks for every stop.

The first set established the pace. The Aztecs hit .565 with 14 kills and one error in 23 attempts. Gonzaga hit minus-.033. A 25-12 margin followed, and SDSU entered the second set with room to test whether the efficiency could survive a closer score.

Gonzaga supplied that pressure by taking a 16-14 lead in the second. SDSU did not chase the set with low-percentage swings. The Aztecs closed on an 11-3 run, winning 25-19 and turning their only sustained deficit into the strongest finishing stretch of the afternoon.

The third set moved differently. It included eight ties and four lead changes before SDSU created separation. The Aztecs hit .417 with 16 kills and one error over 36 swings, then used a 7-2 run to complete the match. Gonzaga never pushed the contest to a fourth set, and the sweep preserved energy during the middle of conference play.

SDSU improved to 10-6 overall and 5-1 in the Pac-12. Gonzaga fell to 5-12 and 0-5. Five straight wins indicate sustained results, but the institutional recap is the only source used here and does not describe Gonzaga's intended defensive matchups or every serve-receive adjustment. The verified pattern is simpler: the Aztecs limited mistakes across all three sets and maintained at least a .417 attack rate in two of them.

The next match changes the test. Utah State comes to Peterson Gym at 6 p.m. Thursday for the program's Dig Pink match. The Aztecs carry three straight sweeps, nine consecutive winning sets and a 5-1 league record into the week.

Saturday's most transferable piece was not the 13-point first-set margin. It was the response at 14-16 in the second, when the match briefly stopped being comfortable. SDSU won 11 of the next 14 points, then handled a third set with repeated ties. A clean stat line became a fifth straight victory because the Aztecs could finish both kinds of set.
