The San Diego City Council adopted Climate Resilient SD, the city's first comprehensive plan focused on adapting neighborhoods and infrastructure to a changing climate.
The plan identified hazards including extreme heat, wildfire, flooding and sea-level rise. It organized responses around resilient public facilities, healthier communities, nature-based solutions and stronger emergency planning.
Unlike an emissions-reduction plan, the resilience document centered on impacts already arriving or expected in coming decades and created a framework for tracking the city's adaptation projects.
