UC San Diego will place four programs on the blocks at Canyonview Aquatic Center this weekend. The annual Triton Invitational begins Friday at 2 p.m. and continues Saturday, bringing Cal, Hawai'i and Pomona-Pitzer to La Jolla for a two-day meet that also serves as UCSD's senior recognition.
Admission is free. Campus parking permits are required every day, including the weekend, and UCSD prohibits pets and glass bottles inside the aquatic center. Those access details separate the ticket price from the full trip: spectators do not need to buy admission, but drivers still need to arrange and pay for parking under university rules.
Seven swimmers will be recognized before Saturday afternoon's session: Adrian Bellido, Eva Boehlke, Lucas Brunett, Zach Elian, Bianca Fernandez, Asia Kozan and Logan Lakis. Seniors Hunter Cehelnik and Hailey Gregory are serving as team captains. The ceremony gives the meet two clocks, one measuring early-season performance and another marking the final home-cycle milestones for a veteran group.
The roster is also absorbing 17 newcomers, according to UCSD's meet release. That creates a broad evaluation weekend rather than a championship endpoint. A multi-team invitational can expose athletes to different race fields and turnaround demands while coaches compare relays, individual entries and depth before the conference season narrows those choices.
The visitor list offers three distinct comparison points in one facility. Cal and Hawai'i bring Division I rosters, while Pomona-Pitzer competes in Division III. Results will still be recorded race by race rather than adjusted for division. A swimmer touches the same wall and clock regardless of an opponent's classification, which makes the timing sheet useful even when team structures differ.
UCSD enters its eighth season under head coach Marko Djordjevic with recent national benchmarks. Chloe Braun set program and Big West meet records in the 100-yard breaststroke at 59.14 in 2025 and reached the NCAA championships. Braun returned to nationals in 2026 with Boehlke and Kozan, then placed 16th in the 100 breaststroke to become UCSD's first Division I point scorer.
At last season's Big West championships, the Triton women won 10 events and reached the podium 16 times while finishing fourth. The men placed third with eight podium finishes and two titles. Landon Egeland earned conference freshman of the year after setting meet and program records in the 500 freestyle. Boehlke won three individual titles, set three meet records and two program records, and was named the conference swimmer of the year.
Those results define the reference points, not a guarantee for October. Cal, Hawai'i and Pomona-Pitzer arrive from different competitive settings, and UCSD's announcement did not publish an event-by-event entry list. The useful comparisons will come from the actual heat sheets and times, especially where returning scorers and newcomers are entered in the same disciplines.
The season ultimately points toward Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championships in St. George, Utah. The women's meet is scheduled Feb. 17-20, followed by the men's meet Feb. 22-25. Canyonview offers the earlier checkpoint: two days, three visiting programs and enough races to show which established strengths survived the offseason and where the new roster still needs time.
