UC San Diego's women spread 750 points across two days and finished the Triton Invitational ahead of California, Hawai'i and Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday. The Triton men placed third with 599.5 points, behind Cal and Hawai'i, after the four programs completed 30 events at Canyonview Aquatic Center.
Asia Kozan delivered the women's only listed individual victory of the second-day recap, taking the 100-yard freestyle in 49.77 seconds. She also placed second in the 200 individual medley at 1:59.22 and the 200 freestyle at 1:48.34, producing front-end points in sprint, middle-distance and multi-stroke events.
The team title required depth beyond those three swims. Eva Boehlke finished second in the 200 backstroke in 1:57.10 and third in the 100 butterfly at 54.12. Teammate Katelyn Wang was fourth in the 200 backstroke, while Mackenzie O'Connell placed fourth in the 100 butterfly. Their pairings kept two Tritons near the top of each event rather than leaving the scoring to one finalist.
That pattern continued across the freestyle and breaststroke races. Rachel Huang took fourth in the 200 freestyle at 1:50.41. Madison Gregory placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.48, and Ava Parkinson was fifth in the 100 freestyle at 51.06. In the distance events, Charlotte Wyzga finished second in the 1,650 freestyle at 17:08.44. Claire Puckett was second in the 500 at 4:57.30 and fifth in the 1,650 at 17:24.60.
UCSD's 200 freestyle relay of Kira Borick, O'Connell, Kozan and Maya Gelev placed third in 1:33.41. Relay points depend on four clean legs and exchanges, making the result a separate measure from simply combining the fastest individual entries. The finish added another top-three score without asking Kozan to carry the whole lineup.
The men collected their strongest listed places through several event groups. Liam Cehelnik finished third in the 100 butterfly at 47.01. Arman Yessengeldy took third in both breaststrokes, swimming 54.82 in the 100 and 2:01.23 in the 200, and placed fourth in the 200 individual medley at 1:48.72.
Distance swimmers supplied another pair of thirds. Henry Franz touched third in the 500 freestyle in 4:28.90 and the 1,650 in 15:36.95. Owen Tower followed in fourth in the mile at 15:41.74. Connor Griffith placed fifth in the 200 breaststroke at 2:03.98, reinforcing Yessengeldy's finish in the same event.
Invitational scoring rewards breadth, and raw team totals do not convert directly into a prediction for a dual meet. Programs may enter different numbers of swimmers, train through the weekend or emphasize separate events. UCSD's official recap provides results and placements but not each team's lineup strategy, so the 750-point women's win is best read as a complete performance in this field, not a season ranking.
The Tritons remain at Canyonview for their next competition. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps visits Oct. 23 for a 1 p.m. dual meet. Admission is free, though campus parking rules still apply. The scoring format will narrow from four-team accumulation to a head-to-head comparison, giving coaches a cleaner view of where each lineup wins or concedes events. Saturday left the women with the team trophy and Kozan with the most versatile individual line. The men did not match Cal or Hawai'i across all 30 events, but third-place finishes from Cehelnik, Yessengeldy and Franz established a competitive spine in butterfly, breaststroke and distance freestyle. The Oct. 23 dual will test how much of that depth transfers when every placement is measured against one opponent.
